Ven. Pema Rinchen

Pema Rinchen was born in 1976 in Mundgod, in the state of Karnataka, India. In 1987, he took his monk ordination. In 1992, he joined Drepung Loseling Monastery in Mundgod, where he has successfully completed his traditional Buddhist studies and received his Geshe Degree (highest degree in Buddhism in the Gelugpa tradition.) In 1998, he received his full ordination directly from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

From 1995 to 1997, he was a member of the Mystical Arts of Tibet tour group, travelling to the U.S.A., Mexicao and Canada, and gave many successful performances on traditional religious dance, and sand mandala construction. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Khamtsen tutor for newcomers to the monastery, and taught Tibetan grammar and composition. Subsequently, he was elected to the post of hostel administrator. From 2002 to the present, he has served in Khamtsen as one of the best Tibetan teachers serving new arrivals from Tibet and other countries.

In 2002, he took on the responsbility of teaching cultural-related subjects such as traditional religious dance, music, and multiphonic chanting to a select group of monks. In 2004, he was sent to Taiwan to attend the Monlam Chenmo Festival held in Fong Shan Monastery. He was appointed Head Chant Master of Drepung Loseling Monastery in the same year. In 2005, he visited Taiwan again and served as the Head Chant Master in the Monlam Chenmo Festival. Following that, he was sent to the U.S., where he gave many successful performances in a variety of Buddhist Festivals.
